Joan's Quilts and CraftsLocated on main street in a building circa 1950, is one of Madison's nicest stores, Joan's Quilts and Crafts. Owner Joan Backus Smith has nurtured the business for the last 25 years! She started in a with a small storefront and slowly worked her way to owning an amazing two and a half floors of the quality merchandise. Her motto "Friendly, Helpful Service brings people back."
She stocks candles form 8 different companies, including Bridgewater, which don't smoke when burnt! She also has over 2,500 bolts of fabric to choose from and the patterns to help you finish your project. Let's not forget the painting supplies: oil, acrylic and anything else you might need.
One of Joan's true specialties is her silk flower selection. A truly wonderful selection of all types and colors. If you feel a little intimidated by the thought of making your own arrangement, don't all you have to do is ask the expert staff and they will gladly help. If you don't have the time Joan will make the arrangement. It's always Christmas time in Joan's "Year-Round Christmas Shop." Wreaths, ribbons and unique gifts are all available in the Christmas area. Joans Building has a history in all itself... Built around 1850 by the Yunker family, it's original use was for a "Meat Market." After that it has been a hotel, restaurant, a boy scout headquarters and a J.C. Penney clothing store.
